Need a free invoice online? Make one in about a minute

A free invoice online is a payment request you fill in a browser and download as a PDF, without paying a monthly fee. On Invvy you type the fields, pick a template, and export. No signup. No watermark. Nothing leaves your computer. Most people finish in about a minute.

You need to bill someone today. You do not need another SaaS login. Open a page, type the job, download a PDF, email it. That is the whole product we built.

Make a free invoice now if you already know the fields. The rest of this page is for the catch-hunting: watermarks, three-invoice caps, and the suites that call a 14-day trial "free."

What does free invoice online actually mean?

It means you can create a sendable invoice in a browser without paying, and without giving up an email address to see the download button. The file should look like a normal invoice: both parties, a number, dates, lines, a total, and payment instructions.

A lot of pages that rank for this query are not that. They hide the template behind a form, or stamp "Made with Brand X" on the footer until you subscribe. That is a trial with extra steps.

How does a free generator compare with a $20/mo suite?

Suites such as FreshBooks, QuickBooks, and Invoice Simple earn the monthly fee if you need reminders, time tracking, and books in one place. If you send a handful of invoices a month, you are paying for a dashboard you will open twice. We have never seen a $20/mo plan pay for itself on two invoices.

Invoice Simple's free tier has long capped people at a few invoices a month. FreshBooks runs on a trial, then a paid plan. Fine when you outgrow a PDF. A lot of product for a $450 weekend job.

How do you make a free invoice in a minute?

Free, no signup, PDF in seconds. Your data never leaves your browser.

Open the invoice generator

Open the generator, fill the same fields a paper invoice needs, and export. Nothing to install. No password you will reset in six months.

  1. Open the generator in your browser
  2. Put your name, address, and payment details at the top
  3. Add the client and a unique invoice number, such as 2026-014
  4. Write a real due date: 15 April 2026, not "due on receipt"
  5. Itemize the work. "Logo set, 3 concepts, $600" beats "design $600"
  6. Check the total. Download the PDF. Email it the same day

Example. You finished a one-page site on 20 August 2026. Invoice 2026-088 is $1,250, due 3 September 2026 (net 14). Type four lines, export, done. For a different look, start from invoice templates or the modern preset.

What if you need GST or a receipt instead?

Australian GST-registered sellers should title the document Tax Invoice and show 10% GST. Use the AUD GST preset or the Australia templates. Already paid? Change the title to Receipt. The field list behind all of this is in what to include on an invoice.

Is a free online invoice safe?

It depends where the typing goes. On Invvy, the invoice is built in your browser. We do not get a copy of your BSB, IBAN, or the client's address. There is no account, so there is no password database of invoice users. Refresh the tab and the draft is gone unless you exported it.

That is a real tradeoff. You will not get cloud history or "email this invoice for me" from us, because those features mean your file sits on someone else's disk. If you want that, pay a suite. If you want a PDF you control, stay local.

A practical habit: do not paste your live account number into a random template site you have not checked. Prefer a generator that never sends the form. Or add the bank details after you download. We would rather you be fussy than sorry.

What should you watch for on other "free" invoice sites?

The word free is doing a lot of work in this niche. Run these checks before you type a client's legal name into a form.

  • Watermarks. If the preview shows another company's logo, the download will too, until you pay.
  • Email gates. A "free template" that demands work email, role, and team size is a lead form.
  • Invoice caps. Three invoices a month is not free for anyone who invoices weekly.
  • Weird totals. Hand-built HTML tables sometimes drop a cent. Check the math before you send.

A free invoice is still a real invoice. Clients pay them every day. You need a unique number, a due date, and payment details, not printer letterhead. See how to write an invoice and how to invoice as a freelancer.

When a paid suite is the right call: you send 20+ invoices a month, you want automatic reminders, or your accountant wants live books. Until then, make the invoice and get back to the work you are billing for.

Frequently asked questions

Is a free online invoice legally valid?

Yes. Validity comes from the contents, not from the software logo in the footer. If the PDF names both parties, numbers the document, dates it, itemizes the work, and shows the total and how to pay, it is a normal invoice. Some countries add tax fields. The tool you used does not change that.

Why do some free invoice tools add a watermark?

Because the download is the product they want to charge for. A watermarked PDF is a trial. Clients notice. Some AP teams will still pay it; others will ask you to resend a clean file. Use a generator that exports a plain PDF, or accept that the "free" plan is advertising on your invoice.

Do I need an account to make a free invoice?

You should not. An account is for saving history on someone else's server. If you only need today's PDF, a browser tool with no login is enough. Invvy works that way: type, download, done. Keep the PDF in your own folder. That folder is your archive.

Can I use a free invoice for a company client?

Yes. Large clients care about purchase-order numbers, their legal entity name, and a PDF they can drop into Coupa or Bill.com. They do not care if you paid FreshBooks. Match the PO, send it to accounts payable, and keep the same invoice number if they ask for a resend.

Is a free invoice generator safe with my bank details?

Only if the details never leave your machine, or you trust the host. On Invvy the form stays in the browser. On a hosted suite, the details sit in their database so they can email invoices for you. Read the privacy page. If you are unsure, add the account number after you download the PDF.

What is the catch with a free invoice website?

Often the catch is a watermark, a monthly cap, or an email gate. Sometimes there is no catch on the PDF, and the site makes money later from ads or a paid plan you can ignore. Invvy's generator is free, unlimited, and unwatermarked. We do not sell a cloud inbox or pretend one exists.
